Discussion on a Living Wage
As you know, as part of a
“grand bargain” bill passed in 2018, state lawmakers approved a provision to
gradually raise the state’s hourly minimum wage from $11 to $15 by 2023,
essentially creating a “living wage” in Massachusetts (DeCosta-Klipa, 2019).
The fear is that the
bigger picture is not being seen and that small businesses are not being
considered in the fight to create a living wage in Massachusetts. Many small
businesses cannot support a living wage. And if the businesses cannot support
the wage, what does that mean?
It means, lay-offs and
short staffing just to start. What was once expected of two employees will now
be expected of one because ownership cannot afford to keep that second employee
on staff.
It means a decline in
overtime for employees who currently rely on more than a 40-hour work week. A
company may be able to pay overtime at $19.13/hour but cannot support overtime
at $22.50/hr or $25/hr. Employees in these situations may be making more an
hour, but they will be taking home less in their checks.
How is a new business
supposed to get off the ground if they can’t afford to hire people to get the
business going?
An increase to a living
wage would mean increases across the board. All employee compensation would be
up for discussion.
Wage compression is a
significant issue and wage feathering comes into play. How would John feel if
he had been working at a company for 5 years and just started making $15/hour
and Susy was hired tomorrow to do the same job at $15/hour? John would be
insulted.
A living wage increase
would skew the numbers even more.
The numbers don’t lie. If
you hurt the business, you ultimately hurt the employee. If the business can’t
grow, then the employees can’t grow. If a business can’t hire more staff, then
those employees currently on staff will be expected to carry the load.
No one is saying that
employees don’t deserve to be fairly compensated. According to the same 2019
survey , 58% of small business owners pay their employees more than minimum
wage (Weston 2019).
Small business owners
understand what it’s like to do the dirty work or to be undervalued. Many small
business owners built their companies from the ground up. Before they could
afford to hire staff, many owners had to do the very jobs that their employees
now do. For this reason, many small business owners understand what fair value is
for the services which they are requesting.
The goal is to fairly
compensate employees while still allowing a business to thrive. If a business
is not allowed to thrive, no one will prosper.

What is a mortgage broker
A mortgage broker acts as a middleman between a homebuyer and mortgage lenders. The mortgage broker will assess the borrower's finances, find appropriate mortgage products, apply for pre-approvals, gather necessary documentation, complete applications, and advise clients on the right mortgage products for them.
Here are some of the potential advantages of working with a mortgage broker to help you obtain financing for your real estate purchase.
- They'll do the rate shopping for you and get you the best deal: This is undoubtedly the biggest advantage of hiring a mortgage broker. Too many homebuyers simply obtain one mortgage quote from a bank and accept it, even though you can apply for as many mortgage quotes as you'd like without adversely affecting your credit. A small difference in mortgage rates can save you thousands of dollars in interest over the life of a mortgage, so it's worth it to shop around.
- Mortgage brokers are more accessible than bank loan officers: Just like your real estate agent, the mortgage broker works for you and doesn't get paid unless you close your loan. For this reason, mortgage brokers tend to be more accessible to buyers than bank employees. When you have questions along the way, it's generally easier to get the answers you're looking for from a mortgage broker.
- Many lenders work exclusively with mortgage brokers: Some of the big banks don't work with mortgage brokers anymore. Conversely, there are some mortgage lenders that only work with brokers. So, your mortgage broker could have access to loan products that you don't.
- Mortgage brokers can get lenders to waive some fees: Mortgage brokers can often get lenders to waive some of their fees, such as application, appraisal, and origination fees. This can save you hundreds of even thousands of dollars.

Why TEFL for Millennials is the perfect career choice
MyTEFL Reviews can be found on our websites;
An escape from the rat race, plenty of job opportunities, and (maybe most importantly of all) a chance to travel and see the world – there are oodles of reasons why TEFL for Millennials might just be the perfect career choice…
Because Millennials love to travel
Upwards of 80 million Millennials in the United States say that that they’ve traveled in the past 12 months. That’s…all of them. So, to put that another way: 100% of Millennials have planned a trip in the last year. Now if that tells us anything, it’s that travel is a pastime of choice for pretty much everyone who still clings to that tenuous self-description of youth. And what profession do we know of that lets folk travel, perhaps even more than any other? Darn tootin’ it’s TEFL; TEFL for Millennials, tailor-made.
Because it isn’t tourism!
The word “tourism” gets a bad rap these days. Conjuring images of sunburnt bodies and all-inclusive hotels, it’s come to signify the sort of way generation Y is determined not to see the world. Don’t just take our word for it though – stats reveal that as many as 78% of younger travelers are determined to have a more adventurous, authentic, local experience abroad than traditional package vacations allow. That’s important because it highlights one of the main reasons TEFL for Millennials could be the perfect choice of career: It means participating, actively, in places; working, living and sharing in the local community.
Because it lets you learn as you go
It seems the thirst for knowledge is alive and well in the Millennials of today. 80% of young travelers say they want to learn something whenever they go abroad. And while that could mean mastering the ins and outs of the Thai kitchen, or getting your carving right on the ski slopes, we think it’s also a nod to the more lifelong education of getting to grips with nuanced religious customs or a different language – both central aspects of the TEFL life if ever there was any!
Because it’s booming
The fear of leaving college without a job hangs heavy over many an undergrad, especially post-2008 and with the onset of the global turndown. TEFL has proved itself somewhat immune to all that, though, with 1.5 billion English learners now estimated around the globe, and increases in the number of private schools from China to Colombia, Italy to France. Yep, it’s not all about sating the wanderlust and gaining meaningful experiences in spots across the planet. There’s job security here. And career progression prospects, too.
Because it’s easy to get qualified
One of the best pieces of news when it comes to TEFL for Millennials is that you’ve probably already done most of the training you need to get into a classroom. You speak English, right? (Well, you’re reading this article, so that’s safe to assume.) That’s the fundamental skill that’s needed. Now all you need to get is that 120-hour certificate, one you can usually study entirely online. Alternatively, if you’re itching to get out and about, you can do your training while working – myTEFL have plenty of internship programs that get you through the necessary teacher training whilst living in awesome destinations like Thailand, China or South Africa. You don’t even need a BA degree to set the ball rolling! If you can think of any other reasons why TEFL for Millennials is the top career choice, we’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. Or, if you’re ready to get qualified and get your Millennial self out there and teaching, be sure to check out the courses we offer.

Proximity Cards - Contactless Smart Cards
A proximity card also known as ‘prox’ cards are smart cards that have a feature of “contactless technology” and so they can be read without the help of a reader device which are required for reading magnetic strip cards such as debit or credit cards. In organizations, proximity cards are used in the form of smart cards to have control on their employees through physical access control system. Every employee is provided with a proximity card, and for entrance in the organizations, employees are required to display the card in front of the proximity card reader. The proximity card reader through radio signals receives ID from the proximity card which the reader further transmit to the main computer. After checking the access database, the system either allow or restrict the entry of the employee.
Kinds of Proximity Card
Passive proximity cards
Passive proximity cards are identified through radio waves signals transmitted from the proximity card reader. And as these cards have limited range and so in order to be read these cards have to be bring closer to the card reader. These cards are generally used in office buildings for access control doors. These smart cards are also used for public transit, in libraries and in payment system.
Active proximity cards
Active proximity cards are also known as vicinity cards. These cards uses internal lithium battery. Unlike passive proximity cards, these cards have range up to 6 feet or 2 meters. These cards are generally used for automated toll collection. However as they are powered by battery, they are required to be replace within 2 to 7 years.
There are variety of proximity smart cards and proximity key fobs available in the market for gaining physical access such as kantech proximity cards, HID proximity cards, indala proximity card, AWID proximity cards, etc.
